Lewis Thomason recently hosted Professor Ben Barton from the University of Tennessee College of Law. Professor Barton spoke on diversity on the United States Supreme Court and in the legal profession and our ethical obligation to seekdiversity in all of its forms. The presentation was based on his book “The Credentialed Court,” which establishes just how different today’s justices are from their predecessors by combining two massive empirical studies of every justice’s background. ProfessorBarton examines the varied lives of past greats, from John Marshall to Thurgood Marshall, and asks how many, if any, of these giants would be nominated today. The presentation was sponsored by InclusivLT, Lewis Thomason’s inclusion, equity, and diversitycommittee. It was live in our Knoxville office and livestreamed to our Nashville and Memphis offices.
