We recently lost our beloved partner and dear friend, Cheryl Rumage Estes. Cheryl began her legal career with Lewis Thomason as a runner and became one of our first female shareholders. For the past decade she has served our firm as the Practice Group Leader for our Labor and Employment group. Cheryl earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Memphis. She went on to law school at University of Memphis as well. Cheryl took great pride in being a lawyer. She was very passionate about not only her law degree but her many clients as well. She was an accomplished employment lawyer and was named to “Best Lawyers in America®” in Employment Law Management. She was Managing Editor of University of Memphis Law Review, a Member of the Shelby County Bar Association, a Fellow of the Tennessee Bar Foundation, a past member of Junior League of Memphis, and a Past Board Member of the Board of Directors for Playhouse on the Square.
Cheryl was a woman of deep faith and was an active member of Germantown Baptist Church for 58 years where she and her late husband, Jack, taught Sunday School for a number of years. She loved her family above all else, including her two sons, Jack and Andrew.
Lewis Thomason deeply mourns Cheryl’s loss. She will be sorely missed for decades to come.
