Isaac S. Lew, special counsel, concentrates his practice in the areas of commercial litigation, complex business disputes, and intellectual property including copyright and trademark law. Mr. Lew has represented the interests of a variety of businesses and professionals ranging from sophisticated and established national companies to entrepreneurs, authors, filmmakers, art collectors, and other creative individuals. Mr. Lew is a seasoned federal court litigator, having handled cases in federal courts throughout the country including Tennessee, Florida, Texas, California, Illinois, Delaware, Colorado, Wisconsin, and Arkansas. For the last several years, he has developed a significant and successful appellate practice, representing clients before the United States Courts of Appeals for the Sixth and Eleventh Circuits, the Tennessee Supreme Court, the Tennessee Court of Appeals, Florida’s District Courts of Appeal, as well as administrative tribunals such as the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and the Board of Immigration Appeals. As part of a three-attorney team, he successfully petitioned the United States Supreme Court to grant a writ of certiorari leading to the reversal of an adverse decision of a federal court of appeals.

As an advocate for his clients, Mr. Lew articulates specialized or technical issues into clear, straightforward, and accessible language.

Mr. Lew practiced in South Florida for seven years before joining Lewis Thomason in 2018.

REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS

  • Briefed, argued, and prevailed in the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit affirming summary judgment in favor of a subcontractor in a construction dispute.
  • Obtained a defense verdict after a six-day trial in the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee in a premises liability case where the plaintiff alleged he was struck by a forklift and knocked off a loading dock. During closing argument, the plaintiff’s counsel asked for $500,000 in damages. After deliberating for a few hours, the jury returned a defense verdict for the property owner.
