Congratulations to Lisa Cole who has been named one of the “100 Women Who Inspire Us” by the American Bar Association Section of Litigation. Lisa will be honored at the 2019 Women in Litigation Joint CLE Conference which will commence the Section of Litigation’s year-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment.
Lisa Cole has broken new ground in Tennessee twice: first for being elected a shareholder while working part-time and secondly for being elected as the only female leading a large firm in Tennessee. Lisa has focused her practice on representing medical providers in healthcare liability cases and employers in workers compensation matters in state and federal court. After six years as an attorney, her first child was born in 1999, and Lisa’s father was fighting a battle against cancer. At that time, it was virtually unheard of for a female attorney to work a reduced, flexible schedule and stay on partnership track. Despite these challenges, Lisa quadrupled her client base and caseload, was elected shareholder, and assumed leadership positions in the firm. Lisa is believed to be the first female to be named shareholder while working part-time in one of the 10 largest firms in the state.
Lisa worked a reduced, flexible schedule until she was elected president/managing partner of the firm in 2013. She now leads one of the largest firms in the state. During her tenure, Lisa managed the merger of her firm and has been elected President/managing shareholder for multiple terms since then. The combined firm has several offices across the state of Tennessee, has over 100 attorneys, and continues to grow each year.
