On October 8th, the TBA Appellate Practice Section hosted its annual boot camp at the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals. Lewis Thomason shareholder Laura Deakins is the Appellate Practice Section Chair and produced this year’s boot camp. As part of the boot camp, oral arguments were held for the Tennessee Criminal Court of Appeals, followed by additional discussions with participating attorneys. A Q&A with presiding judges, a moderated panel of lawyers who participated on the morning docket, and an ethics presentation were also held. Lewis Thomason’s Nashville office hosted a lunch for the boot camp discussions following oral argument.
Laura Deakins has extensive appellate experience, arguing and briefing many matters before the appellate courts. Prior to joining Lewis Thomason, Laura served four years as the judicial law clerk to the Honorable Holly Kirby on both the Tennessee Supreme Court and Tennessee Court of Appeals where she worked on over 100 appellate opinions in a wide variety of legal fields.
